Beneficiaries of The DPO Centre’s latest Charity and Community Fund announced

The DPO Centre is delighted to announce the latest round of beneficiaries of the Charity and Community Fund initiative. The fund has been running since July 2022, with three application rounds per year. Applications are carefully considered and assessed by The DPO Centre’s charity panel, who are made up of representatives from across all areas of the business. Successful charities are selected after an independent voting processA series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.. 

Congratulations to this round’s winners! 

• Servol Community Trust – a charity offering support and accommodation for anyone in the West Midlands and London struggling with mental health problems 
• Self Injury Support – a UK-wide support service for women and girls affected by self-injury, trauma and abuse 
• The Community Advice and Law Service – a not-for-profit and registered charity offering specialist advice and casework for debt, housing, welfare benefits and immigration issues for the people of Leicester and Leicestershire 
• Church Revitalisation Trust – a charity in partnership with the Church of England, planting and transforming churches for communities across the UK  

These four organisations will have access to The DPO Centre’s team of experienced data protection professionals and receive practical advice and support, including compliance reviews, policy drafting, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and the creation and review of data sharing and data processing agreements. 

Lenitha Bishop, COO of The DPO Centre said, ‘We have been overwhelmed by the popularity of the Charity Fund and are thrilled to announce the latest beneficiary line-up, having already delivered the equivalent of fifty-nine days of support to previous winners.  

Offering our expertise and insight to these deserving organisations not only allows them to focus on their cause, but also provides them with essential data protection support they might otherwise not have access to.’ 

Applications for the next round of funding will be open in January 2024, with eligibility criteria to include: 

• Charity or not-for-profit based in the UK 
• Management committee of at least 3 unrelated people 
• Bank account in the name of the charity/not-for-profit 
• Willingness to participate in a post-project case study 

Beneficiaries receive up to £10,000 towards consultancy services, but only billed for 20% of the normal fee. Unsuccessful, organisations may re-apply for another round, but only one application per 12-month period will be considered.
