On Data Privacy Day last Friday, Rob Masson, CEO at The DPO Centre, was featured on 105 Uckfield FM to discuss the importance of data protection and the benefits for organisations that follow data protection rules and regulations.
Rob explains that “processing data appropriately… reduces risk and it improves trust and it enables organisations to engage more positively” with their customers.
Discussing the balance that needs to be struck between allowing direct unsolicited marketing and maintaining individuals’ right to privacy, he highlights that whilst no one wants unsolicited marketing, we are still “avid consumers”, highlighting that the current rules are there to ensure that the data is “protected and respected”, especially in terms of what companies can market.
Ending the interview, Rob Masson stresses the importance of following the Information Commissioner’s Office guidance, and getting good guidance early on is essential for any organisation that wants to understand more about data protection. With data protection being “an important aspect” of business, it is important for organisations to take it seriously.
