Today is the 4th anniversary since GDPR came into effect.
Rob Masson, CEO of The DPO Centre Ltd shares his thoughts of the impact that GDPR has had on data protection since being implemented.
“In the four years since May 25th 2018 when the GDPR came into force, so much has changed, yet nothing has changed. We’ve had Brexit, Covid and the Schrems II decision, yet the GDPR has stood firm, providing the solid regulatory line for organisations processing personal dataInformation which relates to an identified or identifiable natural person. to toe. The EU is hinting at upgrades to the GDPR, the UK is suggesting it is going its own way and the US still can’t make up its mind, but one thing is clear, strict privacy legislation is here to stay and is expanding globally, so toeing that regulatory line is only going to become more complex for all during the course of the next four years.”
