Ametek is an American company established in 1930 who design and manufacture electronic instruments and electromechanical devices for distribution and use across the globe. Headquartered in the United States,
Ametek operates from over 220 sites worldwide, including 14 business units in the UK. Due to the sheer size of the company, Ametek needed to review their policies and documentation across the whole organisation and create Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) to enable compliance with the EU and UK GDPR across their many business units.
The DPO Centre’s outsourced Data Protection Manager (DPM) worked alongside Ametek’s Data Protection Lead to provide guidance and advice, and created a suite of policies and documentation that were eventually cascaded out to all 14 UK business units to ensure a consistent approach toward data protection across the organisation. Due to the nature of Ametek’s business often involving the sharing of personal data and international transfers, The DPO Centre assisted Ametek to meet the ‘Accountability’ principle of the GDPR by creating a RoPA and a retention schedule. Ametek’s assigned DPM recognised the large volume of staff and varying levels of understanding of data protection, so organised staff upskilling sessions which have resulted in a significant increase in the organisation’s level of understanding of data protection laws
Sarah Schroeter, UK HR Manager at Ametek, said:
“Working with The DPO Centre has been fantastic from start to finish. Our assigned DPM is extremely knowledgeable and provides guidance every step of the way. RoPAs can become very large and complex due to the scale and nature of our organisation. That being said, the task never once felt overwhelming with their help and the team filled us with confidence. The DPO Centre also assisted us with DSAR support, and we continue to feel supported with the evolving data privacy landscape globally.”
